Oklahoma’s rural counties are severely underserved.

We have just one licensed therapist or counselor for every 800 Oklahomans. Seven counties don’t have one at all. Licensed psychologists are even more rare.

Data definitions

In several mental health professions, our workforce is unlikely to keep up with demand in future years.

Oklahoma’s supply of mental health counselors exceeds demand currently, but is projected to fall short by 2026. Psychologists are in even higher demand. That considered, social workers and school counselors are plentiful.
