Navigating insurance: Legislative models to aid consumers

A year after Oklahoma enacted legislation calling for fair treatment of mental health consumers seeking care through their insurance plans, there remain few options for those who face barriers to care or potential violations of state and federal “parity” laws.
Several states have seen how legislative action can improve parity compliance and access to care by empowering consumers and providers to know the law and work directly with regulators and insurers on specific issues.
