Suicide deaths are devastating for the communities, families, and friends that are touched by them. Suicide affects children as well as adults.
Data Description
The national rate of youth suicide has more than doubled over the 2007 to 2017 period, from 2.4 to 5.3 deaths per 100,000. The State of Oklahoma rate, which started above the national rate, has increased at a slower rate, and is declining from a 2012 peak. Because of relatively smaller youth populations in Tulsa and Oklahoma counties, the year to year rates are much more volatile, and do not display clear trends.
10 Year Plan Connection: Goal #2 “Lower the rates of suicide attempts and overdoses, and deaths from both causes.”
